Linden Avenue Middle School

A Welcoming and Diverse Community of Learners

An Update from the Superintendent of Schools

Posted Date: 8/06/25 (12:10 PM)

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer and finding time to relax and recharge before the new school year begins. As we prepare for the year ahead, I wanted to share some news with you directly.

Yesterday, I informed district staff I will be taking a brief leave, starting this week, as I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, my prognosis is optimistic. However, the treatment process will take some time, and I will need to focus on my health and recovery.
I’m writing today to share this with you and to assure you that district operations will continue unhindered by my absence. Dr. Kitty Summers, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Staff Development, will lead the district in my place, and I have complete confidence in her and our entire leadership team to continue the important work we are doing together. You can continue to reach out to leadership within your school building, or Dr. Summers, for any needs. My goal is to return as soon as possible, though as part of my treatment I anticipate a second leave later this year.
I look forward to sharing another great school year with you all in September and thank you for your support and understanding.
